A Mexican national has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield, Missouri, for allegedly re-entering the United States after a previous deportation. Gilberto Silvan-Perez, 38, faces a one-count indictment for illegal reentry by a previously removed alien. The current indictment supersedes an earlier criminal complaint filed on May 29, 2025. According to the indictment, Silvan-Perez was previously deported from the U.S. on August 14, 2014.

It is important to note that the charges are accusations and do not constitute evidence of guilt. The case will proceed with evidence being presented to a federal trial jury responsible for determining guilt or innocence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Enforcement and Removal Operations along with Homeland Security Investigations.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). This operation seeks to protect communities from violent crime perpetrators by utilizing resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
