A Kansas City, Missouri man has been charged in a federal criminal complaint for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Vinol Wilson, 50, appeared in federal court following his arrest on May 20, 2025.

According to the affidavit supporting the complaint, the Jackson County Drug Task Force (JCDTF) began investigating drug sales in the Kansas City metro area and identified Wilson as a supplier of MDMA/methamphetamine and cocaine. Since 2022, he has also been under investigation by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for dog fighting.

The affidavit further alleges that during a search at Wilson's residence on May 20, conducted with assistance from the Kansas City Police Department, investigators found a Stag Arms AR pistol with .556 caliber ammunition in the primary bedroom. Wilson is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior guilty plea to a federal drug charge in Kansas for which he was sentenced to 121 months in prison in 2010.

Federal law prohibits individuals convicted of felonies from possessing firearms or ammunition. The charges against Wilson are accusations at this stage; evidence must be presented to determine guilt or innocence at trial.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul Becker and David Barnes are prosecuting this case, investigated by multiple agencies including the Jackson County Drug Task Force and USDA – Office of Inspector General.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN focuses on building community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
