William Aloys Wameling, Jr., a resident of Warrensburg, Missouri, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole in a federal court in Kansas City, Missouri. U.S. District Judge Greg Kays handed down the sentence following Wameling's guilty plea on August 27, 2024, to charges of distributing and possessing child pornography. Along with his prison term, Wameling received a lifetime term of supervised release and must pay $99,000 in restitution to the victims of his criminal activities.
Wameling was previously convicted for possession of child pornography. Upon release, he will need to register as a sex offender in compliance with lifelong federal and state registration requirements.
The prosecution of this case was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison Dunning, while the investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Johnson County Missouri Sheriff's Office.
This sentencing is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative started in May 2006. The project aims to tackle child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating efforts among federal, state, and local resources to arrest and prosecute offenders and assist victims. More information on the project and internet safety education can be found on the Department of Justice's website.
