A Mexican national residing in Kansas City, Missouri, was sentenced in federal court for illegally reentering the United States after a felony conviction. Omar Zamora-Guerra, 35, received a sentence of six years and two months in federal prison without parole from U.S. District Judge Greg Kays. This sentence includes a violation of terms from his supervised release related to a prior conviction for the same crime.

Zamora-Guerra had previously pleaded guilty on September 11, 2024, to reentering the U.S. unlawfully after having committed a felony. He admitted he was aware of his lack of permission to enter or stay in the country legally.

According to federal law, it is illegal for an alien to reenter the United States without permission following a felony conviction. Zamora-Guerra was first convicted in the Western District of Missouri for illegal reentry in October 2020, serving 37 months in federal prison. After his release, he was deported to Mexico but returned to the U.S. before his arrest in May 2024. This sentence marks his third conviction for illegal reentry. He also has a history of assault convictions that led to time in state prison.

Special Assistant United States Attorney Amanda Hanson is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations.
