The Missouri State Emergency Operations Center remains active as state teams address the aftermath of severe storms that swept across the state, causing significant damage and fatalities. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has confirmed 10 deaths resulting from these events.
Governor Mike Kehoe acknowledged the efforts of first responders, volunteers, and faith-based partners who worked through challenging conditions. "Friday and through the night, Missouri first responders, volunteers and our faith-based partners worked tirelessly in response to a series of devastating tornadoes and severe storms, and before that, dangerous and damaging fires," he stated. He expressed gratitude for their work and extended condolences to those affected by the storms.
In response to the situation, Governor Kehoe declared a State of Emergency on Friday. This action activated the State Emergency Operations Plan to bolster response and recovery operations. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol are collaborating with local officials to evaluate damage and provide necessary aid.
Preliminary assessments suggest up to 19 tornadoes struck 25 counties across Missouri. Residents are advised to avoid affected areas to allow emergency services to operate efficiently. Community members are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors who might need help. Those experiencing property damage should report it to their local emergency management agency.
Governor Kehoe plans visits to impacted communities starting today, including stops in Poplar Bluff, Piedmont, and Arnold. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
