A Kansas City man has admitted guilt in a federal court for producing child pornography involving a 13-year-old victim. Talib Bwana Muhammad, aged 26, entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Greg Kays on one count of producing child pornography.

Muhammad acknowledged that from June 9 to June 15, 2023, he used the minor to create explicit content. He met the victim through a social media app and arranged for her travel by purchasing an airline ticket. When she could not leave her home in Texas, Muhammad drove there to bring her back to Kansas City.

The authorities were alerted when the girl was reported missing, leading to an Amber Alert being issued. She was eventually located at Muhammad's residence. During their time together, Muhammad recorded and photographed sexual acts with the minor using a cell phone.

Federal law mandates a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison without parole for such offenses, with a potential maximum of up to 30 years. The exact sentence will be determined by the court following an investigation by the United States Probation Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen A. Brackett is prosecuting this case, which involved investigations by the FBI and police departments from Hitchcock, Texas, and Kansas City, Missouri.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood—a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together resources from federal, state, and local levels to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
