Michael L. Parson, 57th Governor of Missouri | Missouri Gov. Michael Parson
Today, Governor Mike Parson announced that President Joe Biden has approved his request for a major federal disaster declaration. This decision aims to assist local governments and nonprofit agencies in 14 counties affected by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding from November 3 to November 9, 2024. The natural disasters caused significant damage to public infrastructure.
The declaration allows for federal public assistance to repair damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure. It also includes reimbursement for emergency response and recovery costs. Governor Parson's request on November 26 outlined nearly $45 million in qualifying expenses already identified.
"This is important news as the communities impacted by November storms continue on the path to recovery," Governor Parson said. "We appreciate the President making federal assistance available, which will provide millions of dollars in much needed support to help our local partners repair roads, bridges, and other critically important infrastructure."
The disaster declaration covers the following counties: Carter, Crawford, Dent, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Shannon, Texas, Washington, and Wright.
Additionally, the disaster declaration provides statewide assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Program. This program supports cost-effective measures to reduce future damage potential to public infrastructure due to natural disasters.
