A teacher from Lee’s Summit West High School has been charged in a federal court on allegations related to child pornography. Seth Brummond, 37, residing in Greenwood, Missouri, faces a two-count criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City.

The charges against Brummond include one count of distributing child pornography over the internet and one count of possessing child pornography between September 1 and December 18, 2024. His initial court appearance is scheduled for this afternoon.

An affidavit supporting the criminal complaint reveals that police officers from Lee’s Summit received a Cyber Tip on September 8, identifying Brummond as having uploaded 12 videos of child pornography through the Kik Messenger application.

On December 19, law enforcement officers conducted surveillance on Brummond's residence to serve federal search warrants. Following his departure from home around 6 a.m., officers stopped his vehicle and arrested him. During the arrest, an iPhone and a computer tower found in his car trunk were seized.

It is important to note that these charges are accusations and not proof of guilt. The evidence must be presented before a federal trial jury responsible for determining guilt or innocence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Luna is prosecuting this case following an investigation by the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

This legal action is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project combines resources from various levels of government to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
