A Springfield man has admitted to federal charges of possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute and possessing firearms in connection with drug trafficking. Proevine Lennox Robins, 51, entered his guilty plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge David P. Rush.

The charges stem from a March 21, 2023 search of Robins's residence by Springfield police officers. The search uncovered over a kilogram of fentanyl, 14 firearms, ammunition, and $21,000 in cash. The fentanyl was located in various parts of the house including the garage and attic space above it. In the garage, some of the drugs were hidden inside three stacked tires.

Among the firearms seized was a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm reported stolen and another loaded handgun without a visible serial number.

Robins informed investigators that he paid approximately $9,000 for the fentanyl and sold it for between $1,000 to $2,000 per ounce. He estimated selling about two ounces weekly over the past ten to twelve months and acknowledged making around ten trips to St. Louis for purchasing fentanyl during this period.

Federal statutes mandate Robins face at least 15 years in prison without parole, potentially up to life imprisonment without parole. However, his final sentence will be determined by the court based on sentencing guidelines and other factors following a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron A. Beaver is prosecuting this case which involved investigations by the Springfield Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
