A Kansas City man, Ricky Lee Myers, also known as "The Mayor," has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to methamphetamine distribution and illegal firearm possession. The indictment was issued today in Kansas City, Missouri, replacing a previous criminal complaint filed against Myers on October 24, 2024.

The three-count indictment accuses Myers of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it within 1,000 feet of a school on October 23, 2024. Additionally, he faces charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. Specifically, Myers allegedly had a Taurus 9mm pistol in his possession on the same date.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Myers's residence located within a homeless encampment near East 23rd Street in Kansas City. During the search conducted on October 23, agents discovered the Taurus pistol and approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine inside his residence.

Myers has prior felony convictions for aggravated robbery and distributing controlled substances. Under federal law, individuals with felony convictions are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean T. Foley is prosecuting this case following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

This legal action is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. Launched by the Department on May 26, 2021, PSN emphasizes trust-building within communities while supporting organizations that work to prevent violence.
