Jefferson City — Governor Parson recently concluded his final trade mission, marking a series of efforts aimed at enhancing Missouri's economic standing. Throughout these missions, Parson emphasized the state's central location, low taxes, robust economy, skilled workforce, and improving infrastructure.

“From the very beginning, our administration's top priorities have been infrastructure and workforce development. Together, these initiatives grow our state’s economy and create opportunities for Missourians to live their American Dream," Governor Parson stated. “Whether it was here at home or in Germany, Israel, Australia, or anywhere in between, we never stopped advocating for our state on behalf of Missourians."

Director of the Department of Economic Development Michelle Hataway echoed this sentiment: "It has been an honor to join Governor Parson during Trade Missions that showcase Missouri as a prime business destination." She highlighted that these trips promoted Missouri to international companies considering future investments.

Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn also expressed support: "I’ve had the pleasure of joining Governor Parson on several trade missions to promote Missouri agriculture abroad.” Chinn noted that agriculture is Missouri’s top economic driver and that international trade is crucial for its success.

Executive Director of the Hawthorn Foundation Becky Willard added: "Supporting the Governor’s Trade Missions is a key component of Hawthorn Foundation’s strategic framework." She mentioned that their support has been instrumental in strengthening business relationships and promoting Missouri as an ideal location for growth.

Several successful outcomes were attributed to these trade missions. For instance, after a mission to Germany in January 2024, Frogfish Corp., a German security company specializing in surveillance cameras and safety products, announced plans to open its first North American office in St. Louis. Additionally, following a mission to France in April 2022, Leonardo DRS expanded its manufacturing campus in West Plains due to established public-private partnerships addressing logistical concerns.

Governor Parson led multiple trade delegations across various countries from 2019 through 2024. Notable destinations included France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, California (USA), United Kingdom & Ireland, Netherlands & Sweden among others. Each mission aimed at attracting investments from companies like Meta and Google which subsequently made significant investments in Kansas City.

All trade missions were funded by the Hawthorn Foundation—a nonprofit organization focused on developing Missouri’s economy by promoting international connections and investment opportunities since its founding in 1981 by Governor Kit Bond.
