A Jefferson City, Missouri man was sentenced in federal court for possessing illegal drugs while incarcerated in the Cole County Jail. Waun Ramon Ivory, 32, received an eight-year sentence without parole from U.S. District Judge Roseann A. Ketchmark.

Ivory pleaded guilty on October 26, 2023, to possessing contraband in prison. He admitted to having cocaine while serving time in the Cole County Jail. Court documents reveal that Ivory was awaiting a supervised release revocation hearing related to an earlier case at the time of his arrest.

In 2017, Ivory was convicted in federal court for being a felon in possession of a firearm following a family member's 911 call reporting that Ivory had threatened to "put a hole" in another person’s head. After serving five years in prison for this offense, he was released on supervision on June 7, 2022.

However, Ivory failed to comply with the conditions of his supervision and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest. Before he could be apprehended, he was charged with a new offense after a woman reported being assaulted by him. The court revoked Ivory’s supervision and sentenced him to two additional years in prison.

While awaiting his supervised release revocation at the Cole County Jail, Ivory was found with cocaine on March 6, 2023. Court documents also indicate that he possessed a razor blade removed from its safety case during this period. While his case has been pending, authorities discovered Ivory with a weapon made from a toothbrush and another razor blade.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren E. Kummerer prosecuted the case which was investigated by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Cole County Sheriff’s Department.
