Many Americans decide to forgo routine visits to the doctor to avoid taking time away from work. Or, it's difficult to find a ride or there's no close bus route.
In fact, Americans have one of the lowest average numbers of annual doctor visits compared to other developed countries.
To promote and prioritize preventative health, the third Tuesday of September has been named National Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day.
