Union Station Kansas City announced on April 14 a tribute to the victims of the Titanic tragedy, coinciding with the approaching closure of “Titanic: An Immersive Voyage” on April 19. The commemoration includes a violin performance of “Nearer, My God, to Thee,” performed by Carmen Aguilar at the exhibition’s recreated ship dock. This hymn is widely believed to have been played during the final moments aboard the Titanic.
George Guastello, President and CEO of Union Station, said, “Here at the Station, we think deeply about journeys. Every day, this building stands as a testament to where people have been—and where they dream of going. As I stand inside Titanic: An Immersive Voyage, I’m reminded of the passengers’ journeys—each one filled with hope, ambition, and the promise of a new beginning—unaware of the tragedy that would soon unfold. We are proud to be a place where stories are not only preserved but felt. Humanity is the thread that binds us—an enduring, collective heartbeat carried by every person who has passed through these doors, each leaving behind a piece of their story. It is our privilege—and our responsibility—to ensure those stories continue to be told.”
The private performance was recorded and will be shared on Union Station’s social media channels. Visitors during this period will see an In Memoriam wreath upon entering and can leave personal notes in a mirrored Remembrance Room dedicated to honoring those lost in the disaster.
The exhibition has welcomed nearly 150,000 visitors so far and is expected to rank among Union Station’s top six most attended exhibitions before it closes on April 19. Due to high demand for tickets in its final days, extended hours have been added and advance online purchase is strongly encouraged.
Union Station Kansas City is a non-profit historical landmark over one hundred years old that hosts science education programs and community events throughout the year.
