Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jack Kortkamp has been named to the United States U-17 Men’s National Team for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar from November 3 to November 27.
Kortkamp will be part of a 21-player squad selected by head coach Gonzalo Segares. The U.S. team will compete in Group I, starting against Burkina Faso on November 5, followed by matches against Tajikistan on November 8 and Czechia on November 11. All group stage games are scheduled to be held at the Aspire Zone in Al Rayyan, Qatar, and will be broadcast in English on FOX Sports platforms, with further channel details to be announced.
The U.S. squad for the tournament includes players born on or after January 1, 2008. Segares selected 19 players born in 2008 and two born in 2009, with representatives from 15 clubs, including 17 players from 11 different Major League Soccer teams.
Kortkamp has been a consistent member of the national team during the current cycle and is set to become the first Sporting Kansas City player to compete in the FIFA U-17 World Cup since Gianluca Busio in 2019. He was part of the team that secured qualification for this year’s tournament by finishing at the top of Group F in the Concacaf U-17 World Cup Qualifiers held in Costa Rica earlier this year. The U.S. squad will begin its pre-camp in Abu Dhabi on October 21 before moving to Qatar on November 1.
The upcoming tournament marks the first of five consecutive U-17 World Cups hosted by Qatar from 2025 through 2029 and features an expanded field of 48 teams divided into twelve groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-place finishers, will move on to the Round of 32. The knockout rounds will continue until the final match, which is scheduled for November 27 at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
Jack Kortkamp came up through the Sporting KC Academy and signed as a Homegrown Player last December, making him the youngest active goalkeeper in Major League Soccer. Earlier this year, he appeared in three preseason matches before joining the national team for qualifiers where the U.S. won all three games. During his development with Sporting KC Academy from U-14 to U-19 levels between 2021 and 2024, he also made appearances for Sporting KC II in MLS NEXT Pro and led his team with 46 saves in twelve starts during the most recent campaign.
His national team experience includes participating in four U-17 training camps and playing in international tournaments such as the Vaclav Jezek Tournament in Czech Republic. He also played alongside fellow Sporting KC homegrown defender Ian James at various youth national team camps and competitions.
Kortkamp was born in Oakville, Canada, raised in Maple Grove, Minnesota, and first represented the United States at a U-15 training camp in October 2022 at Compass Minerals National Performance Center. He made his debut for the U.S. U-15s in April 2023 during friendlies against England and Japan in Spain. He earned his first selection to the U.S. U-16 Men’s National Team for a Florida training camp in April 2024 and traveled with the team to Argentina for additional matches.
The full roster for the United States at this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup includes three goalkeepers: Jack Kortkamp (Sporting Kansas City), William Lodmell (Sporting Lisbon), and Aidan Stokes (New York Red Bulls). Other players represent clubs both domestically and abroad across defensive, midfield, and forward positions.
