The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for a Sunday night game against the Detroit Lions at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The matchup is seen as an opportunity for the Chiefs to recover after their recent loss.

Wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who had been sidelined from practice due to shoulder and ankle issues, returned on Friday and was a full participant with no injury designation for the upcoming game. Head Coach Andy Reid said Worthy "moved around pretty good." Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott and cornerback Kristian Fulton are also expected to return after missing time. Offensive tackle Josh Simmons was added to the injury report on Sunday afternoon for personal reasons and is listed as questionable.

The Lions face several injuries in their secondary, with starting safeties Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch both questionable and set to be game-time decisions according to Head Coach Dan Campbell. Starting cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed will not play, while Avonte Maddox's status remains uncertain. On offense, left tackle Taylor Decker and his replacement Giovanni Manu are both out due to injuries, along with Maddox.

Detroit leads the NFL in scoring through Week 5, averaging 34.8 points per game. Running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have combined for 635 rushing yards this season, making Detroit the only team with two players over 300 rushing yards so far. Quarterback Jared Goff leads the league in completion percentage at 75.2%, distributing passes primarily to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Jameson Williams.

Despite their offensive success, opponents have found ways to limit Detroit’s running game; for example, Green Bay held Montgomery and Gibbs to just 44 rushing yards in Week 1. The Chiefs’ defense has also limited top running backs this season.

Defensively, Detroit ranks second in the NFL with 16 sacks this year. Edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson has five sacks through five games and is tied for most pressures in the league at 31. However, Detroit’s defense ranks seventeenth in points allowed per game (22.4) and has given up several big plays.

Since the start of last season, Detroit is undefeated (19-0) when winning the turnover margin but has a losing record (5-6) when losing it.

Kansas City aims to avoid mistakes that contributed to last week’s loss against Jacksonville—most notably a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown and accumulating thirteen penalties during the game.

Head Coach Andy Reid emphasized eliminating such errors: "It's just a matter of eliminating the mistakes – something Kansas City has managed to do better than any other team over the years – and there's no better time to flip the script than this Sunday night against Detroit."
