The Kansas City Chiefs have named Dan Joiner of North Kansas City High School (Missouri) and Cole Orrick of Piper High School (Kansas) as the first two recipients of the Coach of the Week award for the 2025 high school football season.
This weekly recognition highlights head coaches in the Kansas City area for both their on-field achievements and leadership off the field. Both Joiner and Orrick will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation, a Chiefs bucket hat, a certificate of recognition, and a custom game ball. They are also now eligible for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which is determined at the end of the regular season by members of the Missouri and Kansas Boards of the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.
Dan Joiner's North Kansas City Hornets started their season with two wins, including a 69-51 victory over Park Hill Trojans. In his second year as head coach, Joiner's team averaged 62.5 points per game in its first 2-0 start since 2022.
"We are very grateful to be named Kansas City Coach of the Week," Joiner said. "This award can be attributed to extremely hard work by the Hornets players and coaching staff."
Cole Orrick led Piper High School to a win over Topeka-Seaman, with his team rushing for 277 yards and scoring two touchdowns on the ground. Orrick previously coached in Dallas, Texas at Life School Oak Cliff before becoming Piper's head coach in January 2024.
"It's an honor to be named the Chiefs Coach of the Week," Orrick said. "This award belongs to the entire coaching staff for the work they have put in this year and to all the players for playing hard and executing at a high level. I also want to thank our administration, who has been extremely supportive of our program. We are proud of the progress we have made so far and are excited for the rest of the season."
The High School Coach of the Week program is now in its 29th year as a partnership between the Kansas City Chiefs and National Football League. The award recognizes coaches who make an impact on student-athletes beyond football.
