Sporting Kansas City partnered with Harvesters during Hunger Action Month to assemble 200 meal kits for families in the Kansas City area. The event, held at the Budweiser Brew House in Children’s Mercy Park on September 10, brought together players, staff, and fans to address food insecurity.
Elizabeth Keever, Chief Resource Officer of Harvesters, spoke about the difficulties many families face and how community efforts can make a difference. Maigan T. Brigette, Sporting KC’s Community Impact Manager, also addressed volunteers before they began packing boxes.
Sporting KC players Ryan Schewe and Jacob Bartlett joined associates in preparing the meal kits. Food for the boxes was provided by Price Chopper. Volunteers worked in teams to assemble and check each kit for quality.
Brigette said, “Today’s event was a reminder of what community really looks like. Bringing together our associates, players, partners, and fans to assemble healthy meal kits alongside Harvesters was powerful. Each box we packed represents more than food; it’s a sign to Kansas City families that they are supported. These moments are why the Sporting Cares platform exists.”
This is Sporting Kansas City’s third collaboration with Harvesters this year as part of its Sporting Cares initiative.
