Sporting Kansas City II lost 3-2 to Colorado Rapids 2 on Sunday at Children's Mercy Victory Field. The match saw Sporting KC II briefly take the lead in the second half before Rapids 2 came back to secure the win.

The first half began slowly, with Rapids 2 gaining momentum midway through. Antony Garcia nearly scored for the visitors in the 28th minute, and Jacob Molinaro made a diving save to stop Malik Pinto eight minutes later. Rapids 2 broke through just before halftime when Sam Bassett set up Alex Harris, who finished for his third goal of the season.

After halftime, substitutions by Sporting KC II brought new energy. Carter Derksen and Anthony Samways entered the match, and in the 54th minute, Samways assisted Maouloune Goumballe for an equalizer—Goumballe’s fourth goal this season. Minutes later, Cielo Tschantret scored from a corner delivered by Johann Ortiz, giving SKC II a brief 2-1 advantage.

Colorado responded quickly as Harris netted his second of the day in the 66th minute after another assist from Bassett. Rapids 2 took a controversial lead in the 79th minute when Cameron Harper’s pressure led to a goal that involved possible offside interference by Mamadou Billo Diop; however, officials allowed it to stand.

Sporting KC II pressed for another equalizer late in the game but could not convert chances from Derksen, Bryan Arellano or Beckham Uderitz.

Following this result, Sporting KC II remains at home and will face Real Monarchs on Saturday, September 6 at noon Central Time. The match will be available on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
