Kansas City-based Children’s Mercy will take over management of pediatric care for Mercy Springfield Communities starting November 1, following the finalization of a partnership that was first announced in March 2024.
John Myers, president of Mercy Springfield Communities, said the new pediatric management agreement with Children’s Mercy will cover the existing pediatric hospital within Mercy Hospital Springfield as well as its specialty care clinics. “The pediatric management agreement with Children’s Mercy becomes effective Nov. 1 and covers the health system’s existing pediatric hospital within Mercy Hospital Springfield and its specialty care clinics,” Myers stated.
Children’s Mercy operates a 367-bed children’s hospital in Kansas City and runs more than a dozen healthcare facilities across Missouri and Kansas. The organization employs nearly 8,900 people, including over 800 pediatric specialists. Meanwhile, according to data from July 2024, Mercy Springfield Communities had 9,217 local employees and more than 160 staff working in pediatrics.
Amy Fallon, president of regional operations for Children’s Mercy, joined Myers in discussing the joint operating agreement ahead of an August news conference that marked the official signing.
The partnership aims to bring together two major healthcare providers to improve coordination and delivery of pediatric services in the region.
