On Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City Royals players participated in an autograph session with a twist. Instead of signing memorabilia for fans, the players received autographed baseball cards from children who are patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
The event featured custom baseball cards made by Topps for 10 young patients. Pitchers Lucas Erceg and Kris Bubic encouraged their teammates to join the session, giving the children an opportunity to sign cards for the athletes.
“I know it just means a lot to those kids,” said Erceg. “Obviously, the situation that they’re in isn’t really the best.”
Erceg added, “When people want our autographs, I know I like signing for kids and it makes me feel special. Hopefully it’s the same for them, too.”
