Jackson County residents have until July 14, 2025, to file an appeal if they disagree with the assessed value of their property. Appeals must be submitted to the Board of Equalization.

The process of filing an appeal is brief, taking approximately ten minutes to complete.

In Missouri, property assessments occur biennially during odd-numbered years. The responsibility for setting and adjusting tax rates lies with various taxing authorities within the county rather than the Assessor. These authorities include school boards, fire districts, water districts, libraries, cities, counties, junior colleges, and several funds such as the mental health fund, disabled services fund, and blind pension fund.

It is noted that Jackson County retains only about seven cents from every tax dollar collected. The remaining 93 cents are allocated to these taxing authorities.
