Christopher L. Curtner, a 41-year-old Kansas City resident, has been charged with bank robbery in a federal criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court of Kansas City, Missouri. The complaint alleges that Curtner committed the robbery on May 27, 2025.

According to the affidavit, Curtner approached a bank teller and handed over a note stating: "give me the money this is a robbery." The teller then activated the bank’s duress code and handed Curtner approximately $1,400 in cash before he left the scene.

An FBI task force identified Curtner as the suspect involved in the robbery. Officers from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD) located him walking within the metro area. The KCPD fugitive unit conducted surveillance and arrested him as he entered another financial institution.

Bank robbery under federal law can result in up to 20 years of imprisonment without parole. However, this maximum statutory sentence is subject to change based on advisory sentencing guidelines and other factors considered by the court during sentencing. A hearing will be scheduled following a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

The charges against Curtner are allegations at this stage and not evidence of guilt. It is required that evidence be presented to a federal trial jury to determine his guilt or innocence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Siegele is prosecuting this case, which was investigated by both the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force's Kansas City Division and KCPD.
