Governor Mike Kehoe has announced that the Missouri State Capitol dome will be illuminated blue from sunset on April 28, 2025, until sunrise on April 29, 2025. This decision marks the observance of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Governor Kehoe emphasized the significance of child safety: "Every child deserves to grow up safe, loved, and supported. Throughout Child Abuse Prevention Month, we renew our commitment to safeguard our most vulnerable, build stronger families, and create safer communities. Preventing child abuse is a cause that belongs to all of us. Together, we can create a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.”

Child Abuse Prevention Month aims to heighten public understanding of the need to protect children and support families. The blue color, represented by the blue pinwheel, is a national symbol for child abuse prevention, denoting the hope and bright futures every child should have.

Director Jess Bax of the Department of Social Services added, “This gesture serves as a powerful symbol of Missouri’s shared commitment to raising awareness and supporting efforts to protect our most vulnerable. Every effort we make to educate, support, and intervene early helps lay the foundation for healthier futures for Missouri’s children. By fostering safe and supportive communities, we are reaffirming our commitment to give every child the chance to grow, dream, and succeed."

The public is urged to report any suspected child abuse or neglect to the Department of Social Services' Child Abuse and Neglect hotline at 1-800-392-3738. Support is available 24/7. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments can contact Relay Missouri through specified numbers.
