After a detailed investigation, the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph Independent Ombudsman has found no new evidence to support the accusation made on August 1, 2024, against Ralph Wehner. The complainant has also withdrawn the lawsuit related to this accusation.

As a result, the Independent Review Board recommended to Bishop James Johnston that the diocese should close the preliminary investigation according to existing protocols. Consequently, Bishop Johnston has lifted the precautionary suspension on Deacon Ralph Wehner and reinstated him to active ministry.

The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph emphasizes its commitment to accountability and action in preventing abuse and supporting survivors and their families. Since 2002, around 41,000 adults associated with the Church have been trained in recognizing and reporting child sexual abuse, fostering a culture of prevention.

The diocese stresses that it takes all allegations of misconduct by church personnel seriously and aims to respond promptly and respectfully to survivors' needs. It encourages anyone with information about misconduct by church members or volunteers to first contact civil authorities before reaching out via the diocese’s confidential report line at 816-812-2500 or email ombudsman@diocesekcsj.org.
