Governor Mike Parson has directed that U.S. and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Deputy Sheriff Dennis Boyd. This directive applies to government buildings in St. Louis City and all sheriff's offices across Missouri on October 11, 2024.

Governor Parson remarked, "Deputy Sheriff Boyd was a 20-year veteran of the St. Louis City Sheriff’s Office, known for his dependability and for almost never missing a day of work." He added, "Reliable, dedicated public servants like Deputy Boyd keep our justice system operating and are the reason Missourians can have confidence in justice being served." The Governor also expressed condolences to Boyd's wife, Nicole, and his family.

Deputy Boyd had previously served with the St. Louis City Division of Corrections for two years before joining the Sheriff's Office. On September 25, he experienced a medical emergency upon returning to work after starting his shift early in the morning.

At age 50, Deputy Boyd was recognized in May 2022 as one of over 20 deputies from the St. Louis City Sheriff's Office who obtained Missouri peace officer licenses following training at Lincoln University's Law Enforcement Training Academy. This program took place at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis.

Flags will remain at half-staff on the day of Deputy Sheriff Boyd’s interment.
