The Catholic community worldwide is preparing to commemorate World Mission Sunday on October 20. This annual event brings together the Church's missions in a global Eucharistic celebration. Bishop James V. Johnston, Jr., of Kansas City-St. Joseph, extended an invitation from Pope Francis inspired by the Gospel: “Vayan e inviten a todos al banquete (cf. Mt 22,9).”

Bishop Johnston highlighted the historical support received by the U.S. Catholic community over a century ago from the global Church, which contributed to what is now known as the second collection. Today, there is a call for extending similar generosity to over 1,150 mission territories across Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Pacific Islands, and the Middle East.

Funds collected during World Mission Sunday directly aid seminaries, future religious leaders, catechists, Catholic schools providing essential education, and health centers offering crucial care—embodying Christ's love.

The bishop emphasized that as members of the universal Catholic Church, active participation in this mission is encouraged. Contributions and prayers on World Mission Sunday support the Church’s vital evangelization work.

“Les insto...a responder generosamente a este llamado,” said Bishop Johnston. He urged prayers for successful missionary activities and for those dedicating their lives to spreading the Gospel. The bishop described generosity as a powerful testament to faith's core values of love and compassion.

Bishop Johnston expressed hope that World Mission Sunday would deepen commitment to the Church’s universal mission and encouraged visiting onefamilyinmission.org for donations.

Sincerely in Christ,

Reverendísimo James V. Johnston, Jr.

Obispo de Kansas City-St. Joseph
