Governor Mike Parson has directed that U.S. and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Officer David Lee III of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. This tribute will take place on Saturday, October 5, at government buildings in the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, and all police stations across Missouri.

"Officer Lee was selflessly assisting a motorist on Interstate 70 when he was tragically struck by an impaired driver who had no business being on our roads," stated Governor Parson. "Officer Lee dedicated 18 years of his life to honorably serving the people of St. Louis, earning the Department Award of Excellence on three occasions as well as a Chief's Letter of Commendation. We will always remember his unwavering service to the people of our state. Teresa and I extend our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

The incident occurred on September 22 while Officer Lee III was helping a driver involved in a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 when he was hit by another vehicle driven by an intoxicated individual.

Throughout his career with the department, Officer Lee III received multiple accolades including three Department Awards of Excellence, the "Officer of the Month" award, and a Chief's Letter of Commendation. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Flags will remain at half-staff on the day Officer Lee III is laid to rest.
