A Kansas City man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm. Jonathan Good, 33, received the maximum penalty from U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips.
Good was found guilty on March 21, 2023, of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred on July 29, 2020, when Good arrived at his ex-girlfriend's residence intoxicated and belligerent. He waved a gun around and fired a shot before pointing the pistol at her head and threatening to kill her.
When police officers arrived at the scene, Good attempted to flee in his silver Ford Mustang. He led officers on a high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood, eventually losing control of his vehicle and crashing into several parked cars. Officers arrested him and found three live rounds of ammunition while he was being treated at a hospital.
A search of Good's residence uncovered the loaded Taurus 9mm pistol hidden inside an old charcoal grill. Forensic evidence linked Good to the weapon through DNA found on the trigger guard.
Good has multiple prior felony convictions including domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, violating an order of protection, and theft of livestock.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stefan C. Hughes and Brandon E. Gibson and investigated by the Kansas City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
This sentencing is part of Operation LeGend, a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime in Kansas City in memory of four-year-old LeGend Taliferro.
