The Diocese of Kansas City – Saint Joseph has announced a new deanery structure that will take effect on September 1, 2024. The redefinition aims to foster pastoral care through common action among neighboring parishes.

Bishop James V. Johnston, Jr., after consulting with the Presbyteral Council, has issued a decree redefining the deaneries within the diocese. The changes are as follows:

**Kansas City Central Deanery:** This includes the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Oratory of Old Saint Patrick, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Our Lady of Sorrows, Sacred Heart-Guadalupe, St. James, St. Francis Xavier, St. Monica, St. Therese Little Flower, Guardian Angels, Holy Cross, Holy Rosary, Our Lady of Peace, St. Anthony and Visitation—all located in Kansas City.

**Kansas City South Deanery:** This comprises St. Peter and St. Elizabeth in Kansas City; Christ the King; St. Thomas More; Coronation of Our Lady in Grandview; Church of the Holy Martyrs; St. John Francis Regis; and St. Sabina in Belton.

**Kansas City Northland Deanery:** Included are St. Patrick and Holy Family in Kansas City; St. Charles Borromeo; St. Andrew the Apostle in Gladstone; St. Gabriel Archangel; St. Therese Little Flower in Parkville; St. James in Liberty; St. Ann in Plattsburg and Excelsior Springs; Church of the Good Shepherd in Smithville; Church of the Annunciation in Kearney; Twelve Apostles in Platte City and Holy Trinity in Weston.

**Kansas City Eastern Deanery:** This includes parishes such as: St Bernadette's (KC), Nativity Mary (Independence), plus others like Holy Spirit (Lee’s Summit) & Santa Fe(Buckner).

**Saint Joseph Deanery:** Comprising parishes such as: Cathedral-St.Joseph/St.Mary/OurLadyofGuadalupe(plus many more)

**Southern and Rural Eastern Deanery:** Parishes included here are: Lourdes(Harrisonville), HolyTrinity(Urich), ImmaculateConception(Montrose) etc

"The presbyters of these deaneries are expected and strongly exhorted to meet regularly," said Bishop Johnston Jr., "undertake those tasks assigned to them," he added further they should also join efforts together for matters affecting their deanery & collaborate with diocesan bishop per norm law

This decree will be effective from September 1st 2024
