In a recent decree issued by the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph, it was announced that St. Cyril Parish in Sugar Creek will be amalgamated with St. Mary Parish in Independence. The decision comes after a thorough examination process addressing various aspects of parish life and the need for consolidation.

The history of St. Cyril Parish dates back to the early 1900s when families of Croatian and Slovakian descent were transferred to Sugar Creek by the Standard Oil Company of Indiana. Over the years, the parish witnessed significant milestones, including the construction of a new church building in 1926
