The KCKCC baseball team split their first two games against Cowley County Wednesday afternoon as the squad fell 11-10 and won 10-7 on their home field. The Blue Devils are 13-8 overall and 2-4 in the KJCCC.
In the first game, the Tigers went up 10-3 after five and a half innings. KCKCC was donned the task of climbing back, and that they did in the bottom of the sixth. Parker McGee started by scoring with one out on an error, before Jett Buck scored on a hit by pitch, and Gehrig Goldbeck hit an RBI single. Later with two outs and the bases loaded, Matthew Buffington sent a ball over the left field fence for a game-tying grand slam to make it 10-10. Cowley added a run in the seventh and held on in the bottom half to earn the first game win.In game two, the Blue Devils jumped out to a 5-1 lead. Buffington, McGee, Jase Woita and Buck all had RBI hits in the first inning. Woita later stepped in and hit a two-run double to cap off a three-run fourth inning and made it 8-1.
KCKCC led 9-2 after six innings, but Cowley jumped on the Blue Devils with four runs in the seventh to inch closer. After making it 9-8 KCKCC in the top of the eighth inning, the Blue Devils added an insurance run when Lee Allen Jr. scored on a single from Hunter Candelas. The Blue Devils shut down the Tigers in the ninth and earned the win.
Buffington and Woita combined for 10 RBI on the day.
Both teams return to action to face each other again on Saturday in Arkansas City, Kan. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
