Dejan Joveljic continued his scoring streak, and Santiago Munoz converted a late penalty, but Sporting Kansas City’s comeback attempt fell short in a 3-2 defeat to Seattle Sounders FC at Children’s Mercy Park. The loss on Saturday night leaves Sporting with a record of 6-11-5 and 23 points.

Seattle took control early, leading 3-0 by halftime with goals from Jordan Morris, Albert Rusnak, and Jesus Ferreira. Joveljic scored from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, sparking hope for a comeback. In stoppage time, Nouhou was sent off for violent conduct before Munoz’s penalty reduced the deficit to one goal. However, Sporting couldn’t find an equalizer as Seattle ended Kansas City’s three-game unbeaten run.

Sporting will host New York City FC next Saturday at Children’s Mercy Park. Interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin made three changes to the lineup following last week’s win over Colorado Rapids.

Morris opened the scoring in the 15th minute after receiving Paul Rothrock’s cross. Rusnak doubled Seattle’s lead with a penalty kick awarded after VAR intervention. Ferreira added a third goal just before halftime following a counterattack.

In the second half, Joveljic earned and converted another penalty for Sporting. He now has eight consecutive matches with either a goal or an assist. Despite several attempts, including Munoz’s blocked shot and Salloi hitting the post, Sporting couldn’t close the gap further until Munoz’s late penalty.

The match saw multiple yellow cards issued for unsporting behavior and delaying restarts. Nouhou received a red card for an altercation with fans.

The game concluded with Seattle moving up to fourth place in the Western Conference standings while dropping Sporting to 12th place.
