Sporting Kansas City announced on April 30 that the team will return home to face the Seattle Sounders at Sporting Park this Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Central Time. The match will be broadcast nationally on FOX and FOX Deportes, streamed via Apple TV, and available locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.
The upcoming game is significant as Sporting Kansas City looks to end a five-game losing streak in Major League Soccer play. The Seattle Sounders have started their season strongly, winning six of their first eight matches with only one loss since late February. Sporting has previously ended winless runs against Seattle in both 2023 and 2024, giving hope for a turnaround.
Recent encounters between the two teams have been competitive. In July of last year, Sporting narrowly lost to Seattle at home by a score of 3-2 after mounting a second-half comeback. The teams met again in August at Lumen Field where Seattle won 5-2 despite goals from Mason Toye and Daniel Salloi for Sporting.
Goalkeeper John Pulskamp made his third consecutive penalty save during last weekend’s match against Chicago Fire but was unable to prevent an eventual defeat as Chicago scored on the rebound. Pulskamp’s three straight saves tie him with club legends Tim Melia and Tony Meola for most consecutive penalty saves in club history.
Sporting also started two teenagers—defender Ian James (17) and midfielder Kwaku Agyabeng (19)—in the recent match against Chicago Fire. With an average roster age of just under 24 years old, Sporting has one of the youngest squads in Major League Soccer this season.
Off the field, players including Cielo Tschantret, Ethan Bartlow, and Jayden Reid participated in local volunteer events celebrating Earth Week as part of Major League Soccer’s Greener Goals Initiative. Activities included supporting food access programs at Pendleton Heights Community Garden and Kanbe’s Markets Warehouse.
