Sporting Kansas City experienced a challenging match on Saturday night, facing a 3-0 defeat against the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place. The result sees Sporting with a record of 6-12-6 and 24 points, while Vancouver maintains their strong form in second place with a record of 13-5-6 and 45 points.

Head coach Kerry Zavagnin made adjustments to his lineup following a draw with NYCFC. Tim Leibold replaced Logan Ndenbe at left back, and Zorhan Bassong took over midfield duties due to Manu Garcia’s quad injury.

Vancouver applied early pressure, creating opportunities that kept Sporting’s defense busy. J.C. Ngando had an early chance but missed the target. Sporting’s Daniel Salloi also missed an opportunity after receiving a smart pass from Dejan Joveljic.

The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Emmanuel Sabbi capitalized on Jayden Nelson’s assist. Shortly before halftime, Ngando doubled the lead, leaving Sporting trailing by two goals.

In the second half, despite efforts from players like Salloi and substitutions including Jake Davis and Santiago Munoz, Sporting couldn’t break through Vancouver’s defense. Mathias Laborda added a third goal for Vancouver late in the game, securing their victory.

Sporting will have a bye next weekend before hosting San Diego FC at Children’s Mercy Park on August 9th. Fans can catch the action live via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV or listen on Sports Radio 810 WHB.

Attendance for the match was recorded at 20,719 under sunny skies with temperatures around 69 degrees.
