Sporting Kansas City II has announced that Istvan Urbanyi is no longer serving as the team’s head coach. The club named Ike Opara as interim head coach, with the change taking effect immediately. Opara will continue to work with goalkeeper coach Darrin MacLeod for the rest of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season.

Urbanyi was appointed head coach in January and led Sporting KC II through their first 20 matches of the season. His previous roles with the organization include serving as a Sporting KC Academy coach from 2014 to 2016 and as Talent Identification Director between 2018 and 2020.

The club’s final eight games of the regular season begin on Sunday, when Sporting KC II hosts Houston Dynamo 2 at Children’s Mercy Victory Field inside Swope Soccer Village. The match is scheduled for a noon kickoff, with tickets available for $10 through SeatGeek and streaming provided via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
