Sporting Kansas City hosted its inaugural Goal Getters Career Prep Summit on April 9 at Sporting Park, offering high school and college students an opportunity to explore careers in sports and develop professional skills.
The event was part of the new Goal Getters: Sporting KC in the Classroom program, which aims to connect students with Sporting Kansas City through experiences like stadium tours and guest speaking opportunities. Organizers said these initiatives are designed to inspire, educate, and motivate students as they consider their future careers.
The summit was free for all interested students, including those from partner schools as well as others who wanted to attend. During the event, attendees heard from a panel that included Chioma Atanmo, Senior Director of Community Impact and The Victory Project; Joe Harig, Director of Ticket Sales; Andrea Kimball, Vice President and General Counsel; and Tyler Amorese, Director of Argyle Events Operations. The panelists shared their career journeys, discussed challenges they have faced in the industry, and offered advice for young people hoping to enter sports professions.
Students also received personalized resume reviews from Sporting KC staff members who provided feedback on job search strategies. They participated in case studies involving real-world scenarios such as increasing sales or marketing to younger audiences. After presenting their solutions, participants were coached by front office staff on ways to improve critical thinking skills.
Chief Marketing Officer Sandra Moore addressed attendees with professional development tips aimed at helping them stand out when applying for jobs. All participants received a complimentary ticket to see Sporting KC play San Jose on April 11.
