Sporting Kansas City announced on Apr. 28 that Lia Olson, an eight-year-old leukemia survivor from Omaha, Nebraska, will be recognized as The Victory Project Gameday Honoree on May 2, 2026.
The recognition highlights the ongoing efforts to celebrate children who have faced serious illnesses and their stories of resilience. The Victory Project aims to bring attention to young survivors and provide support for families navigating medical challenges.
Lia was diagnosed with high-risk leukemia in October 2019 after initially being treated for what appeared to be an ear infection. She reached remission on New Year’s Eve of the same year and completed two and a half years of chemotherapy with the help of her family, doctors, and a special immunotherapy treatment from St. Jude. Today, Lia is off treatment and described as thriving—a strong and joyful girl whose journey continues to inspire those around her.
According to Sporting Kansas City, Lia enjoys playing soccer, swimming, going down slides, caring for her baby dolls, and counts macaroni and cheese along with chocolate among her favorite foods.
