Sporting Kansas City secured a 2-1 victory over Colorado, marking a significant achievement for the team as they hadn’t won in Colorado for 11 years. Interim Head Coach Kerry Zavagnin expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “I’m incredibly proud of the guys and how we’ve dealt with a lot of the adversity.”

Zavagnin highlighted Erik Thommy’s contributions during the match. Thommy scored one goal and provided an assist, which was instrumental in securing the win. “He’s been in and out of the lineup over the last 15 games,” said Zavagnin. “He’s improved his performances individually.”

The defensive effort was also noted by Zavagnin, who acknowledged that while Sporting KC absorbed considerable pressure from Colorado, they managed to hold their ground. “We had an extremely young backline again,” he mentioned.

Goalkeeper John Pulskamp’s performance was praised for being crucial to maintaining Sporting KC’s lead. Zavagnin commented on Pulskamp’s ability to make critical saves: “He’s very good in his reactions with balls headed close to him.”

Pulskamp also earned his second assist of the season through a long ball to Thommy, contributing significantly to the team’s success. On this play, Zavagnin remarked, “Credit to John and Erik (Thommy) for seeing it.”

Midfielder Erik Thommy emphasized the importance of taking an early lead and recognized Pulskamp’s efforts: “We are lucky we have John (Pulskamp).”

The victory holds significance as Sporting KC aims to gather more points with only 14 games left in their season. Thommy noted, “It was big… We needed the three points.” The team is optimistic about their upcoming matches as they continue their push towards playoff contention.
