Sporting Kansas City announced on April 12 that the team will play two matches in four days this week, beginning with a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game in Colorado and continuing with a Major League Soccer match in Canada.
The team will face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC of the USL Championship at Weidner Field on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Central Time in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. This is the first meeting between Sporting Kansas City and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, and fans can watch live coverage on Paramount+ or listen locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB.
On Friday, Sporting Kansas City will resume its MLS regular season against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, who currently lead the Supporters’ Shield standings. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Central Time at BC Place and will be broadcast live in both English and Spanish on Apple TV as well as local radio stations.
In addition to these matches, several club events are scheduled throughout the week. The Sporting Kansas City Academy is holding open tryouts for its Under-15 team on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at Swope Soccer Village for players interested in joining for the next MLS NEXT season. Registration must be completed online before participating.
Defender Luca Antongirolami from Sporting KC Academy has joined the U.S. Under-16 Boys’ National Team for participation in the Vertex Cup taking place this week in Florida.
Other activities include registration opening Friday for upcoming youth tournaments such as Sporting KC’s annual 5v5 Fest and Sporting Classic later this year, along with one-day youth soccer camps offered Friday at locations across Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas.
The club also noted that there will be a doubleheader featuring Academy teams against FC Cincinnati on Saturday morning at Swope Soccer Village, while ID sessions for Girls Academy Aspire are set to take place Sunday evening at Central Bank Sporting Complex.
