Research College of Nursing and HCA Midwest Health announced on April 8 the opening of a new $36.5 million facility in Kansas City, designed to advance nursing education and clinical training. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at Research Medical Center, marking what organizers described as a significant investment in the region’s healthcare workforce.

The new 78,000-square-foot building brings together Research College of Nursing and the HCA Healthcare Center for Clinical Advancement under one roof. This integration aims to support nurses at all stages of their careers by providing access to high-fidelity simulation labs, interactive classrooms, and hands-on training environments that closely mirror real-world clinical settings.

Keith Zimmerman, President of HCA Midwest Health, said: “This is an investment in our community and in the future of healthcare. We know the strength of our health system depends on the strength of our people. By expanding access to education and training and preparing the next generation of skilled, compassionate nurses while supporting those already in practice, we are building a workforce ready to meet the needs of the region for generations to come.”

Katie Bruels, Division Chief Nursing Executive at HCA Midwest Health, said: “The integration of Research College of Nursing and the HCA Healthcare Center for Clinical Advancement creates a unique environment where learning and practice come together. Students gain hands-on experience in settings that mirror today’s healthcare environments, while graduate and experienced nurses have opportunities to teach, lead and continue advancing their skills.” Amy Townsend, President of Research College Of Nursing added: “This new facility reflects where nursing education is headed. We are preparing students to enter the workforce with the skills and experience needed to deliver care from day one. By combining academic excellence with real-world clinical experience, we are strengthening the connection between education and patient care in a way that benefits our entire community.”

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas also attended the event saying: “HCA’s investment in nursing education is an investment in every Kansas City family interested in caring and exceptional care. HCA Midwest Health and the Research College Of Nursing are building the future of healthcare in our community, and Kansas City couldn’t be prouder to be home to both.”

The facility supports ongoing development for both student nurses through Research College Of Nursing programs as well as graduate medical professionals via residency programs at HCA Midwest Health hospitals across Greater Kansas City.
