The Major League Soccer (MLS) announced the Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 22 of the regular season. John Pulskamp, a goalkeeper, and Erik Thommy, a midfielder, were recognized as two of the top 20 players in the league following their team’s 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park on July 4, 2025.
Erik Thommy played a crucial role in the match. As captain, he was instrumental in securing the win for Sporting Kansas City by assisting with the first goal and scoring one himself. In his assist, Thommy outpaced Colorado’s defense along the wing and delivered a cross to Dejan Joveljić. Joveljić then scored with a left-footed shot from close range to give Sporting an early lead.
In the 53rd minute, Pulskamp initiated a play with a goal kick that found Erik Thommy. Thommy maneuvered past several Rapids players and scored what became the winning goal. His performance earned him a spot on the team of the matchday.
Despite changes in their defensive lineup, Sporting maintained strong defense throughout. John Pulskamp made significant saves at critical moments to secure victory for his team. Not only did he make important saves, but he also contributed to the winning goal with his precise goal kick. This marked Pulskamp’s second assist this season.
