The Major League Soccer (MLS) announced the Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 21 of the regular season. Goalkeeper John Pulskamp and midfielder Erik Thommy were recognized among the top 20 players in the league following their team’s 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake at Children’s Mercy Park on June 28, 2025.
Erik Thommy had a notable performance. As captain, Thommy helped control the pace of the game and scored the equalizing goal in the 59th minute. Jake Davis initiated a play in the penalty area, Manu GarcÃa found space, and passed to Thommy who leveled the match with an unstoppable shot. Sporting achieved their desired goal which provided them with momentum.
The defense had a strong showing, particularly in the second half. In a match where they played with one less player, goalkeeper Pulskamp ensured that scoring opportunities for the opponent were minimized. At just 23 years old, Pulskamp has already been acknowledged by MLS for his impressive performances. He received this honor last Thursday as part of Team of the Matchday for Matchday 20.
