United Fitness Partners, which operates nearly 20 Planet Fitness clubs in the Kansas City area, announced on Apr. 24 a partnership with The Victory Project and Sporting KC to host a charity run this spring. The event, called the Victory Run x Planet Fitness 5K, is scheduled for May 9 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Participants will receive a medal, t-shirt, and custom bib as part of their registration.
The main goal of the event is to raise funds for The Victory Project’s mission to support children with cancer and provide inclusive soccer opportunities for youth who have disabilities or limited financial resources. Proceeds from donations and registrations will go toward these efforts.
The Victory Run x Planet Fitness 5K aims to further the organization’s initiatives such as offering VIP weekends with Sporting Kansas City as Gameday Honorees for children fighting cancer. “Through the support of community partners like Planet Fitness, The Victory Project and Sporting KC have had the privilege of honoring over 250 gameday honorees,” said Chioma Atanmo, Senior Director of The Victory Project. “The Victory Run is more than a 5K, it’s a chance to rally our community around a shared purpose, expand our reach, and continue delivering meaningful experiences to the kids we serve.”
In preparation for the event, Planet Fitness has developed a free four-week training plan designed specifically for non-runners who want to participate in their first race. Members can sign up online or at any participating club in Kansas City or nearby areas.
United Fitness Partners is described as the largest Planet Fitness franchisee group in the United States with more than 190 clubs across fourteen states. Founded in Dover, New Hampshire in 1992, Planet Fitness reports having about 18.7 million members worldwide by December 2023.
The broader impact of this partnership may be seen through continued support for local children facing health challenges and increased community involvement around fitness activities.
