Three Mexican nationals have been charged with illegal reentry into the United States. Arturo Cantu-Santiago, one of the individuals, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty on May 13, 2025. He was arrested by Kansas City, Missouri Police Department officers on March 28, 2025. Cantu-Santiago had previously been removed from the U.S. twice in 2011.
Florencio Aburto-Feliciano was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 20, 2025. He was arrested by Greenwood, Missouri police officers on May 8, 2025. Aburto-Feliciano had been removed from the U.S. at least once before in May 2021.
Juan Ramirez-Valencia also faced an indictment by a federal grand jury on May 20, 2025. His arrest occurred on March 27, 2025, by the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office. Ramirez-Valencia had been previously removed from the U.S. in August 2020.
The charges are accusations and not evidence of guilt; evidence must be presented to a federal trial jury for determination of guilt or innocence.
According to federal statutes, Cantu-Santiago, Aburto-Feliciano, and Ramirez-Valencia could face up to two years in federal prison without parole if convicted. The maximum statutory sentence is determined by Congress but will ultimately be decided by the court based on advisory sentencing guidelines and other factors after a presentence investigation.
These cases were investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations as part of Operation Take Back America. This initiative aims to address illegal immigration and protect communities from violent crime through resources from various Department of Justice programs.
