A Mexican national, Marcos Martinez-Jimenez, has entered a guilty plea in federal court for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously deported. His earlier removal followed a 2007 conviction for aggravated indecent liberties with a child under 14 in Johnson County, Kansas. After serving a 61-month prison sentence, he was deported to Mexico in 2011.
Martinez-Jimenez, aged 42, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to one count of returning illegally to the U.S. following his removal due to an aggravated felony conviction. On February 11, 2025, he was arrested in Kansas City, Missouri by Immigration & Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement & Removal Operations during a vehicle stop.
The defendant faces a potential sentence of up to twenty years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The sentencing date is yet to be determined by Judge Kays. Martinez-Jimenez will remain in custody until his sentencing hearing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Venneman is prosecuting the case which was investigated by Immigration & Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement & Removal Operations.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation integrates resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
