A Mexican national was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 5 for illegally reentering the United States after being removed multiple times. Victor Rubio-Trejo, 48, faces a one-count indictment charging him with illegal reentry.
Rubio-Trejo was arrested by the St. Joseph, Missouri Police Department on April 10 and identified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) the following day. ICE determined that Rubio-Trejo had been removed from the United States five times previously and has a prior felony conviction for illegal reentry.
The charges in both the criminal complaint and indictment are accusations only. “Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence,” according to officials.
Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas P. Heberle is prosecuting this case, which was investigated by ICE with help from the St. Joseph Police Department. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, described as “a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”
The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri supports community outreach and prevention programs aimed at addressing issues like violent crime and drug trafficking, according to the official website. The office handles federal prosecutions across 66 counties in western Missouri from its locations in Kansas City, Jefferson City, and Springfield; it collaborates with various law enforcement partners within its jurisdiction stretching from Iowa to Arkansas borders.
