A Mexican national has been charged in Kansas City, Missouri, with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and five counts of distribution. Geovanni L. Cano, 39, was named in a six-count criminal complaint filed on August 29, 2025.
Court documents state that from January to August 2025, Cano distributed about seven kilograms of methamphetamine to law enforcement officers during six controlled purchases in Kansas City, Missouri. The drugs were allegedly supplied by a broker based in Mexico. On August 28, investigators arrested Cano while he had roughly 3.7 kilograms of methamphetamine in his possession. Authorities then executed a federal search warrant at his residence in Kansas City, Kansas, where they found approximately 18.6 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The criminal complaint states that the charges are accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence must be presented to a federal trial jury for determination.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashleigh Ragner is prosecuting the case following an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, and IRS-Criminal Investigations.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America and was investigated and prosecuted by the Missouri Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF). HSTFs were established under Executive Order 14159 as joint operations led by the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security to address illegal immigration and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations across the country. Operation Take Back America coordinates resources from several federal initiatives including Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
