Sporting Kansas City II lost 3-1 to Austin FC II at Children’s Mercy Victory Field in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday. Medgy Alexandre scored his fourth goal in three games, giving SKC II an early lead before Austin FC II responded with three unanswered goals.
Head coach Istvan Urbanyi made several changes to the lineup after two consecutive road wins last week. Jack Kortkamp started in goal for the first time since June 27, and Ian James returned to the starting eleven for the first time since May 18. The defensive line included Nati Clarke, Pierre Lurot, Beckham Uderitz, and James. Captain Cielo Tschantret played as holding midfielder, with Shane Donovan ahead of him and Blaine Mabie making his professional debut. Alexandre was joined up front by Bryan Arellano and Maouloune Goumballe.
Alexandre capitalized on a backpass in the eighth minute to score from inside the box. Austin FC II quickly equalized through Jorge Alastuey one minute later.
James blocked a shot from Diego Abarca soon after the equalizer, and Kortkamp stopped another attempt by Ervin Torres before 20 minutes had passed. Mabie narrowly missed scoring his first professional goal following a pass from Goumballe.
Kortkamp made a save with his face near the half-hour mark but could not prevent Vlad Danciutiu from scoring on a close-range tap-in shortly afterward. Near halftime, Mabie was pulled down in the box without a penalty call; Tschantret’s follow-up shot was saved by Charlie Farrar.
Both teams kept their lineups unchanged after halftime. Early chances for Alexandre and Goumballe were denied by Austin’s defense. Farrar saved shots from both Arellano and Mabie as SKC II pressed for an equalizer.
In the 63rd minute, Urbanyi made substitutions: Anthony Samways, Johann Ortiz, and Zane Wantland replaced Arellano, James, and Uderitz. Alastuey scored again for Austin in the 73rd minute to extend their lead before Carter Derksen entered for Donovan.
Kashan Hines debuted professionally at age 16 when he substituted Alexandre in the 83rd minute after signing an amateur agreement in July. Kortkamp made another save late but SKC II could not reduce the deficit further.
This result ended Sporting KC II’s two-game unbeaten streak. The team will travel to face MNUFC 2 at RCTC Stadium in Rochester, Minnesota on Friday at 7 p.m CT on MLS Season Pass.
