The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art has announced the launch of a new blog series titled “Kemper x KU: Collection Spotlights.” Over the next eighteen weeks, the museum will feature two artworks from its collection each week. Each post will include essential information about the artwork and a short essay that offers interpretation and context.

This initiative is the result of a partnership between the Kemper Museum and the University of Kansas (KU). The collaboration was organized by Jessica S. Hong, Chief Curator at Kemper Museum. Graduate students from KU participated in a fall 2025 seminar led by David Cateforis, Professor and Chair of Art History. The students visited the museum to study their selected artworks, conducted independent research, presented their findings in class, received feedback from peers, and revised their essays under editorial guidance from Professor Cateforis.

The seminar concluded with a public event at Kemper Museum on December 12, 2025. During this event, each student presented on one of the artworks they had researched.

“The Kemper x KU: Collection Spotlights authors, pictured alongside Prof. David Cateforis in the above photo, are, L-R: Marty Arnold, MA Student in Museum Studies; Angela K. Rouse, MA Student in Art History; Rebecca Lampe, MA Student in Art History; Cara Castaldi, MA Student in Museum Studies; Soph Garrison, MA Student in Art History; Abigail Usrey, PhD Student in Art History; Alessia Serra, MA Student in Art History; Ziying Song, MA Student in Art History.”
